A construction worker at the house at the intersection of 68th Place and Chaparral Road heard a child crying about 8:30 a.m. and went to see why, a Scottsdale police spokesman said.
The worker saw a man and woman wrestling over a gun, and the worker grabbed the gun ran out of the home, the spokesman said.
The woman and child followed, but the husband grabbed another gun and chased them outside before shooting the woman and then killing himself, the spokesman said.
Their bodies were found on a sidewalk outside the home.
The construction worker had the child when police arrived, the spokesman said. The couple had another child who was not home at the time of the shooting, the spokesman said.
The man had been served an order of protection from the woman on Friday, the spokesman said, and was ordered to stay away from the house and his wife. He also was supposed to have relinquished his guns, the spokesman said.
No police officers were involved in the shooting, the spokesman said.
