Girl Scout cookie desserts return to Scottsdale restaurants

Girl Scouts

Girl Scouts–Arizona Cactus-Pine Council has announced the return of its award-winning Girl Scout Cookie Dessert Challenge.

For the third year in a row, chefs from some of the state’s most popular restaurants will use their culinary prowess to re-imagine one of the beloved flavors of Girl Scout cookies – Do-Si-Dos, Samoas, Tagalongs, Thin Mints, Trefoils, and Savannah Smiles – into a custom dessert menu item.

Each restaurant has agreed to feature its dessert on its menu from Feb.1 to Feb. 29, with a portion of the proceeds from each dessert sold directly supporting Girl Scouting in our community, according to a press release.

“In 2015, the Girl Scout Cookie Dessert Challenge inspired home cooks and families to get creative with Girl Scout cookies. In fact, Girl Scouts sold more than 3.25 million packages of cookies – the largest sale in Council history,” stated Susan de Queljoe of the local council, in the release. “The Council hopes the Girl Scout Cookie Dessert Challenge will help break that sales record in 2016.”

Girl Scout Cookies are available through Feb. 28 this year. As in recent years, the Girl Scouts will have all cookies on hand for immediate customer purchase. Locations of cookie booths can be found by downloading the app Cookie Finder or by visiting girlscoutcookies.org.

In addition to traditional cookie sales, local Girl Scouts are also excited to participate in Digital Cookies 2.0 for the first time.

This will give girls a robust, hands-on, and entertaining learning experience, including an enhanced cookie website, with fun quizzes, games, videos, and other activities that offer girls opportunities to learn budgeting and resource allocation using a “spend, save, and give” model.

Girls will also become familiar with digital business and sales concepts, explore impactful and philanthropic ways to invest their cookie earnings, learn about Internet safety, and more, the release stated. Each girl’s experience is customized to her age level.

“Digital Cookie 2.0 means local Girl Scouts can market their cookie business by inviting customers to visit their personalized cookie websites via email. Once online, customers will be able to order cookies, pay by credit card and have their cookies shipped directly to their home. Customers may also donate cookies to the Council Gift of Caring Program,” stated Ms. de Queljoe in the release.
