Industry marketing veteran joins Colling Media

Top hospitality marketing veteran Darrell Luery recently joined Scottsdale ad agency Colling Media as its Marketing Strategy Consultant, where he will represent the agency with current and future clients in the broad hospitality industry, including the hotel, restaurant and gaming sectors, and serve the agency internally as a marketing and business development strategist.

Mr. Luery’s extensive background will allow Colling Media to expand further into the hospitality and travel marketing sectors, according to a press release.

Prior to joining Colling Media, Mr. Luery previously won acclaim as the president of Balley’s-Las Vegas, which he led through a turnaround from bankruptcy to profits exceeding $100 million a year in less than two years.

He then conceived and developed the Paris-Las Vegas Resort, which achieved the highest return-on-investment of all new Las Vegas Resorts, with annual profits exceeding $135 million.

Mr. Luery, who has relocated to Scottsdale, began his career with Madison Avenue agencies, where he handled such diverse clients as Disneyland, the Motion Picture Association of America, Dunkin’ Donuts, and The Tonight Show. From there he was recruited as the Vice President of Worldwide Marketing for Holiday Inns Inc., the world’s largest hotel chain.

After his time in Las Vegas, he joined a San Diego-based consulting firm, where he was the Vice President, proving management development, market positioning and image-building services to a wide range of clients.

His career also included time as a trusted aide and advisor for such names as Donald Trump and Phil Ruffin, the release stated.
