SASSI kicks off contest in search of best undiscovered Italian recipe

Do you consider yourself an artisan of Italian cuisine? Do friends and family rave about your culinary creations? Is your great-grandmother’s legendary pasta dish so good it should be served in a restaurant?

If so, SASSI could feature one of your signature dishes on its sumptuous menu in March.

Valley residents can submit a favorite Italian recipe and photo, either by email ( or on SASSI’s Facebook page ( The contest continues through Feb. 21.

SASSI is located at 10455 E Pinnacle Peak Parkway, Scottsdale.

SASSI’s culinary, ownership, wine and management teams will review all of the recipes and select one that best represents the restaurant’s culture, values and menu style. Entrees must include a photo of the finished dish, detailed list of ingredients and clear instructions for preparation.

Executive Chef Chris Nicosia creates seasonal menus based on the cooking methods and ingredients of traditional Southern Italian cuisine, incorporating Italian olive oil, cheeses and Prosciutto; handmade pasta and breads, and carefully selected meats and seafood.

The winning recipe will be featured on the restaurant’s March menu with credit given to the artisan.

Judging will take place during February and the winner will be announced on Monday, March 2. Recipes must use commonly available ingredients and Italian ingredients, and have a significant connection to Italian food traditions.

The ingredients must be reasonably simple and suitable for preparation at home by someone with basic cooking skills. In addition, the recipe cannot include unreasonably expensive or unusual ingredients.

The winner also will receive dinner for six with four courses (antipasti, pasta course, main course, dessert and non-alcoholic beverages).

The second-place winner will receive a $100 SASSI gift card. The winning recipe will be adapted as necessary for commercial restaurant production and may vary slightly from the submitted recipe.

The winner also agrees to participate in media interviews, promotional photography and use of their image for any reason for an unlimited time.

Submissions must include contact information (full name, telephone number, residential address, email address). The winner agrees that all information submitted with the recipe may be verified by SASSI or its agents.

All entries, recipes and photographs become the property of SASSI and may be used for an unlimited time in any way the restaurant deems appropriate, including but not limited to advertising or future restaurant or event menus.
