Scottsdale Classic Cooking Academy offers summers courses

The Classic Cooking Academy, 10411 E. McDowell Mountain Ranch Road in Scottsdale, offers various classes throughout the 2015 summer. Two of their featured courses are:

Arizona Wine Dinner
Saturday, June 20 6:00-8:30 p.m.
$65 per person

The event begins at 6:00 p.m. The dinner will be hosted by Chef Pascal Dionot and wine expert Jim Wiskerchen. The evening will feature all Arizona wines, and featured items will be:

  • Crab Cake in a Cheese Puff
  • Del Rio Springs Phoenix
  • Salmon in a leek and Potato Broth
  • Pillsbury Chardonnay
  • Green Chili Chicken with Tortillas
  • Rancho Rossa Syrah
  • Duck Breast with Prickly Pear Sauce, and Cholla Buds
  • Sonoita Vineyards Sonora Rossa
  • Almond Semi Freddo with Biscotti
  • Superstition Meadery, Tahitian Honeymoon Mead

Mr. Wiskerchen has been actively involved in the Arizona wine industry for the past 20 years. Most of his career has been spent working retail sales, where he helped to educate consumers on how to appreciate wine, according to a press release.

Mr. Wiskerchen also has experience working with the wholesale distributor community and   has  extensive knowledge of the wines available within the state of Arizona.

After a two-year stint as wine specialist/buyer at Whole Foods Market in Arizona, Mr. Wiskerchen went on to form his own independent consulting firm, My Wine Helper. Mr. Wiskerchen currently works with many up and coming local Arizona wineries, helping the public to taste and purchase amazing Arizona wines.

Mr. Wiskerchen is currently in the planning stages of starting his own winery in Arizona. He produced 100 cases of wine in 2013 that will be released in 2015 under the JAW Cellars brand.

Components of Wine
Monday, June 22 6:30-8:00 p.m.
$30 per person

In the Components class patrons will deconstruct a glass of wine in order to  understand what each component brings to the table.

Ms. Steerman is an 11-year veteran of the wine industry and is a Certified Sommelier, Certified Specialist of Wine, and Certified Specialist of Spirits.

Ms. Steerman currently manages the Trinchero Family Estates luxury wine and spirits portfolio at Young’s Market Company of Arizona.
