Horizon teacher, Lisa Baker, receives journalism award

Lisa Baker, a teacher at Horizon High School, was selected as the winner of the 2015 Arizona Interscholastic Press Association‘s Forest R. Martin Memorial Award for Excellence in Journalism.

Teachers are nominated by members of AIPA and voted on by the membership, according to the release.

Ms. Baker has been teaching yearbook, desktop publishing and photojournalism for 25 years at Horizon, according to the release.

She is the advisor for ‘Heritage,’ the school’s yearbook, and ‘H Magazine,’ a quarterly publication. Both Heritage and H Magazine has won numerous awards.

The AIPA supports middle school and high school journalism programs, including newspaper, yearbook, web, broadcast and literary magazine across the state.

The Scottsdale Independent is published monthly and mailed to 75,000 homes and businesses in Scottsdale.
