Interim Saguaro High School Principal Ann Achtziger was named the permanent leader of the school Dec. 13.

During the Scottsdale Unified School District Governing Board meeting Superintendent Dr. Denise Birdwell announced the promotion, along with remarks highlighting Ms. Achtziger’s exemplary job.

“In my years as an administrator time to time, we’ve done surveys on how someone’s doing with their staff. Never in my career, have I had 92 percent of the staff say ‘I like what this principal is doing,’” said Dr. Birdwell at the meeting held at Coronado High School, 7501 E. Virginia Ave.

Ms. Achtziger was previously serving as assistant principal before being named interim. Prior to that, she was assistant principal at Mohave Middle School; and taught in several departments including high school match and arts.

“It is a humbling and honoring experience to be able to support and lead the Saguaro learning community, so thank you for this opportunity,” said Ms. Achtziger at the meeting. “We are going to continue on with the great things that we are doing for the community.”

Saguaro High School, 6250 N. 82nd Street in Scottsdale, serves approximately 1,400 students, according to its website.
