The cheer team from Scottsdale’s Notre Dame Preparatory took first place and earned recognition as Grand Champion at the Universal Cheerleaders Association Team Summer Camp, held July 8-11 at Arizona Grand Resort.

The team was comprised of returning NDP cheerleaders and incoming freshmen who will soon be trying out for the school’s 2015-16 competitive cheer team, according to a press release.

Universal Cheerleaders Association was founded in 1974 to provide high quality educational training for college and high school cheerleaders through summer camps and clinics on college campuses, stated the release. UCA’s goal is to inspire leadership on and off the field.

All of UCA’s material and programs are centrally focused on the traditional role of cheerleading. UCA believes that the primary purpose of a cheerleader is to support athletic programs and lead the crowd before and during games, according to the release.
