Notre Dame Prep grad ranks first in class in Naval Academy

The U.S. Naval Academy has ranked Notre Dame Preparatory graduate Grant Zaro in first place out of 1,173 plebes (first year students) in its Order of Merit standings for the fall 2014 semester.

Grant Zaro w_cover on-1A computer science major, Mr. Grant earned a 4.0 grade point average and achieved top scores for physical performance and military conduct and aptitude. The academy’s Order of Merit is determined on a semester basis for each class and is calculated on grade point average and weighted scores in physical education, physical readiness and military performance. Performance scores and rankings are contributed by class peers, upperclassmen and company officers.

Grant’s USNA assignments this summer include marine training, backpacking in Alaska and shadowing an enlisted sailor at sea on a fleet ship at an undermined worldwide location.

Grant graduated Summa Cum Laude from Notre Dame Prep in May and was salutatorian for the class of 2014.  He was a National Merit semi-finalist and placed in the top 10 in the Arizona Math Competition in his junior and senior years. Grant served as president of the NDP chapter of the National Honor Society, lettered in four varsity sports and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol in Scottsdale from 2009 to 2014.
