Rancho Solano Preparatory School senior, EK Gaylord, is spearheading a collection drive for the Mesa Emergency Children’s Center which is operated by Child Crisis Arizona.

The center provides shelter for children admitted due to neglect, abandonment, abuse, and parental incarceration, according to a press release. The drive seeks to collect items such as diapers, baby wipes, white bath towels, and more.

As a member of the Governor’s Youth Commission, EK is on a committee which seeks to target dating violence in Arizona communities.

This drive is an extension of their goal to help those affected by dating violence, which oftentimes involves the youngest and most vulnerable members of the community, the release stated.

This initiative is especially important to EK as he has worked with the shelter in the past and has come to appreciate all the good work that they do. He is hopeful that through this drive the shelter will not be in need of any necessities this holiday season.

Collections will be accepted through Oct. 9.
