SUSD, Discovery Education partner to offer educators STEM academy

On Saturday, April 9, Scottsdale Unified School District and Discovery Education, the leading provider of digital content for K-12 classrooms, will host the Discovery Education STEM Academy, a no-cost professional development opportunity for over 100 local educators to explore STEM as it relates to their location.

During this immersive professional development experience, participating educators will explore best practices for implementing innovative STEM curricula that prepare students to be effective problem solvers and lifelong learners, according to a press release.

The academy is to be 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Mohave District Annex, 8500 E. Jackrabbit Road.

During a series of interactive sessions, attendees will experience instructional strategies that promote STEM skill building, experience new digital tools and resources supporting STEM instruction, and prepare action steps for implementing STEM practices. In addition, participants will examine data about future STEM opportunities in Arizona so they can build their own STEM strategy.

The academy will be led by a Discovery Education expert with extensive experience partnering with districts and schools to transform teaching and learning and create a culture of STEM.

Discovery Education is the leading provider of digital content and professional development for K-12 classrooms and a division of Discovery Communications whose networks include Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and Science Channel.

Since 2013, Scottsdale Unified School District and Discovery Education have partnered to bring digital resources to classrooms to empower teachers, enhance curriculum and inspire students. Students currently have access to the award-winning Discovery Education Science Techbook, an interactive digital solution that replaces traditional textbooks, and Discovery Education Streaming Plus, a comprehensive digital service supplementing instruction across all K-12 curricular areas, the release stated.
