Desert Stages Theatre brings Broadway to Scottsdale stage

Desert Stages Theatre will feature the Arizona debut of the musical “Disaster!” 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11.

In addition, “Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks” will be staged beginning 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, and “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” noon Saturday, Jan. 19.

Desert Stages Theatre is at 7014 E. Camelback Road, Suite 0586, Scottsdale.

“Disaster!” features favorite songs from the ’70s such as Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours” and Donna Summer’s “Hot Stuff.”

The show will be directed by Gary Crumm, father of Max Crumm who starred in the original Broadway cast of “Disaster,” according to a release.

“Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks,” directed by Joy Bingham Strimple, follows the relationship between the aged Lily, played by Barbara McBain and her acerbic dance instructor Michael, played by Roger Prenger.

“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” will be directed by Lisa Barton Figueroa and performed by actors ages 12-22.
