Leukemia Lymphoma Society hosts Man & Woman of the Year finale

Over 1 million Americans and 23,000 Arizonans currently battle blood cancers. Every three minutes, someone is diagnosed with a form of blood cancer and every 10 minutes someone loses their battle.

Each year, in communities across the country, dynamic, passionate candidates engage in a spirited 10-week competition to earn The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s “Man & Woman of the Year” titles, by raising funds for blood cancer research and patient support.

Arizona’s candidates will be crowned during a final event planned June 12 at Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale.

Man & Woman of the Year candidates are goal-oriented and compassionate. Last year’s campaign raised more than $432,000 and “Man of the Year” Chuck Hauff of Snell & Wilmer raised more than $100,000 in honor of his brother Don, who passed away from Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia a few months after the campaign closed.

The 2015 Grand Finale honors the Man & Woman who raises the most funds over the past 10 weeks.

Candidates’ efforts will be celebrated with food, cocktails, music, auction, and announcement of the Man and Woman of the Year.  Guests will have the opportunity to connect with 500 top industry leaders/movers and shakers in the community, to see patients and cancer survivor cross the stage with fundraisers whose work makes research possible.

Candidates are creating memorable experiences for their donors through their own personal connections. The FabAZ.com owner and candidate threw a Celebrity Brunch; a Bachelorette Premiere Viewing party was held by a former Bachelorette herself; an “Ad Auction” at Bluemedia brought together the marketing industry in Arizona; and the upcoming “Barbells for Lymph nodes” Cross Fit competition will celebrate health in honor of a candidate who is also a cancer survivor.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with registration and a silent auction. The program begins at 6:15 p.m.
