Scottsdale approves Jam On It Basketball Academy tournaments at WestWorld

Jam On It Basketball Academy will continue its run at WestWorld of Scottsdale after the City Council approved on consent an event agreement.

This will be the fourth year the amateur athletics basketball tournament will take place at WestWorld, 16601 N. Pima Road. The tournament will run over two consecutive weekends in late July and early August.

City staff say since the tournament has started, it has produced $122,405 in event revenue to WestWorld. That total breaks down to $103,454 in event invoice, $9,121 in concession commission, $5,393 in ticket surcharge and $4,437 in parking commission.

In its three years at WestWorld, 380 teams have competed with 133 of them being from out of state. This has led to 11,000 attendees, per a city staff report.

The Boys West Coast Division II and III National Championship will run July 26-28 and will feature teams from third to 11th grade. That same weekend will be the Desert Jam, running from July 27-28 for teams of boys and girls in fourth grade to varsity.

From Aug. 3-4, the Southwest Regional Championships will feature teams from Arizona, Texas, Nevada, California and New Mexico. The 2019 High School Series will run over the same dates for boys teams from the freshman, junior varsity and varsity levels.
