Scottsdale Concert Band closes season with Mother’s Day concert

The Scottsdale Concert Band will conclude its 38th season with a free Mother’s Day concert titled “Over the Hills” and Far Away,” at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 8, at the Saguaro High School auditorium, 6250 N. 82nd St. in Scottsdale.

The band, directed by Michele Kalo, will perform “Children’s March,” by Percy Grainger; Leroy Anderson’s “Blue Tango”; selections from “The Sound of Music”: and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

The 75-member Scottsdale Concert Band, winner of the Sudler Silver Scroll, is sponsored by Scottsdale Community College and performs four concerts per year, according to a press release.

The Sudler Silver Scroll is presented by the John Philip Sousa Foundation and is the most prestigious award available to a community concert band.
