‘Smile! You’re on Candid Camera’ visits Scottsdale arts center

Smile, you’re on Candid Camera!” is a popular phrase heard and seen by television viewers for over eight decades.

"Candid Camera" was created by Allen Funt and first appeared on television in 1948. Today, his son, Peter, continues creating and hosting new episodes of the classic comedy.

“Candid Camera” was created by Allen Funt and first appeared on television in 1948. Today, his son, Peter, continues creating and hosting new episodes of the classic comedy.

Now Peter Funt, son of the show’s creator and the show’s current host, brings it to Scottsdale in an entertaining, laugh-filled stage show 8 p.m. Saturday, April 9 at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts.

“Candid Camera’s 8 Decades of Smiles! With Peter Funt,” has pleased audiences nationwide. Mr. Funt’s stage comedy is blended with a behind-the-scenes peek at clips and quips from the show’s funniest moments.

Created by Peter’s father, Allen Funt, “Candid Camera” is the only entertainment program to have produced new episodes in each of the last eight decades – from Allen’s start on TV in 1948, through Peter’s acclaimed run on TV Land last year.

Using “Candid Camera’s” vast library, Peter showcases decades of fun and reveals what happened behind-the-scenes when the cameras weren’t rolling.

Tickets for the show are available by calling 480-499-TKTS (8587) or on the web www.Scottsdaleperformingarts.org.

The special one-night-only show features many “Candid Camera” sequences photographed in Scottsdale and the Greater Phoenix area.

“This is not just a trip down memory lane,” explains Peter. “It’s a funny, fast-paced commentary on our whacky world as seen through the Candid Camera. And every time we do the show unusual and unexpected things have a way of happening.”

Several audience members will get a chance to join Peter on stage to answer “Candid Camera” trivia questions and win prizes.

In addition to hosting over 200 episodes of “Candid Camera,” Peter writes a syndicated newspaper column and has appeared on many top talk shows. He is currently at work on a new version of “Candid Camera” for late 2016.
