Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art is celebrating Mother’s Day with its third annual SMoCA Family Mix on Sunday, May 8. The fun-filled event to honor mothers and inspire kids is free and open to the public from noon to 3 p.m.

On the high heels of SMoCA Mix: Fashionably Avant-Garde, the Museum’s annual fundraiser that this year will celebrate the creative intersection of contemporary art and fashion, SMoCA Family Mix will offer a fun-filled afternoon of interactive activities and crafts for kids and parents alike, according to an April 28 press release.

Children are encouraged to dress in their funkiest outfits while they create stylish, handmade accessories and curate their own artistic look with hair braiding and face painting.

A fashion-forward balloon gown from Balloon Art International will be on live display alongside interactive games, balloon-made flowers for moms and top hats, headbands and accessories for kids. Students at the New School for the Arts and Academics in Tempe will present their annual fashion show on runways throughout the completely transformed Museum showcasing handmade avant-garde creations.

Families will be able to take their turn on the runway for unforgettable photo ops and sweets from Sugar Jam Bake Shop’s mobile bakery will be available for a complete day of artistic and fashionable inspiration to delight the whole family.

The Scottsdale Independent is published monthly and mailed to 75,000 homes and businesses in Scottsdale.
