The Barrett Distinguished Alumni Award is bestowed annually amongst alumni who demonstrate great academic, professional, and/or community achievements.

Recipients of the prestigious award are selected by representative staff at Arizona State University’s Alumni Association, Barrett Leadership, and the Barrett Alumni Council. Mr. Van Houten is one of only three recipients to receive the honor this year.

“I am honored to join the company of such a select and accomplished group of alumni that have received this recognition before me. All of my contributions to my profession and the community can be traced back to the rich experiences and world-class education I received as a student at the Honors College,” said Mr. Van Houten.

“I look forward to continuing to support ASU and Barrett, The Honors College as they develop and prepare new generations of leaders well into the future. Go Devils!”

Mr. Van Houten is a resident of Paradise Valley and serves as executive board member for Paradise Valley Public Safety Retirement Plan and Personnel Appeals.

As founder and CEO, Mr. Van Houten has built Stonegate Financial Group into one of the top independent wealth management firms by providing comprehensive investment, tax reduction and wealth management strategies to meet the unique needs of high net worth families, business owners and institutions.

Recently, Mr. Van Houten was recognized as a “Top 40 Under 40 Leader” by Phoenix Business Journal, an “Emerging Leader” by AZ Business Magazine and featured in the Wall Street Journal.

Mr. Van Houten also lends his time and expertise to the community in various ways: providing pro bono financial planning for families in need, previously serving as an advisory board member for ASU Foundation of Gift Planning.

Additionally, he exhibits his passion for helping children with life-threatening conditions by supporting heart surgeries for children in poverty as an Esteemed Member of Gift of Life and by making their wishes come true through his service on the governing and executive boards of Make-A-Wish Arizona.
