Scottsdale graduate to deploy to Kuwait

Chaparral High School graduate Army Spc. Robert C. Safreno is to deploy to Kuwait.

Spc. Safreno, an ammunition specialist with the 299th Brigate Support Battalion, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan., will be deploying with the “Dagger” Brigade for nine months to Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The unit’s mission is to support trusted regional partners with bilateral and multilateral military exercises and theater security cooperation activities in the Central Command area of responsibilities, according to a press release.

Operation Enduring Freedom is the official name given to anti-terrorism military operations involving U.S. troops and allied coalition partners.

Active duty and reserve component members from all branches of the U.S. armed forces have been deployed to support the war against global terrorism outside of the United States.

Spc. Safreno is the son of Terry J. Safreno of Phoenix and is a 2011 graduate of Chaparral High School in Scottsdale.
