CCUSD school bus involved in traffic accident, 3 students taken to hospital

A school bus on route 81 has been involved in a rear-end traffic accident at 136th street and Rio Verde Drive, Cave Creek Unified School District officials say.

A driver rear-ended the school bus with middle and high school students on it, CCUSD spokeswoman Julia Scotto said in a Nov. 7 email.

Three students were transported to area hospitals for non life-threatening injuries, Ms. Scotto said.

A Cactus Shadows High School administrator is on their way to the scene; students can’t be released until the school official arrives and police release the witnesses, Ms. Scotto said.

A reunification site has been set up at 120th Street and Rio Verde Drive for parents and guardians. Police have closed the street in both directions, and will resume the route with a new bus as soon as the road is re-opened, CCUSD says.
