City continues Scottsdale Stadium master plan overhaul pursuit

The city of Scottsdale is moving forward with its plans to upgrade Scottsdale Stadium and has found a contractor to complete a master plan for the stadium overhaul.

City staff gained Scottsdale City Council’s approval to enter into a contract with Populous Group, LLC for $244,524 to complete master planning services on the stadium and other baseball-related facilities.

The council made the decision at its Tuesday, Sept. 20 city council meeting.

Two baseball training facilities, one at Indian School Park and the other at Papago Baseball Complex, are part of the master plan for upgrades.

With the city’s approval to sign a contract with Populous Group, LLC, planning would proceed immediately for implementing the master plan upgrades, the city staff proposal states.

The estimated completion date is June 30, 2017, according to the staff proposal.

There is a long list of upgrades that are part of the master plan to improve the stadium and practice facilities.
Some of those include: extending the roof overhang; put fixed seating in left- and right-field bleacher areas; locker room and press box suites expansions; and  exploring more parking options such as expanding Civic Center Parking Garage.

Scottsdale Stadium houses the San Francisco Giants during Cactus League Spring Training as well as the Arizona Summer League and the Scottsdale Scorpions of the Arizona Fall League.

The stadium also plays host to several other year-round events.
