City delivers nearly 200 “Beat the Heat” care packages

Scottsdale city staff and volunteers delivered 193 “Beat the Heat” care packages to seniors in recent weeks.

Every June, the Via Linda and Granite Reef senior centers provide bags of summer goods for isolated, frail and home-bound senior citizens, according to the city of Scottsdale website.

Residents donated supplies, which included reusable bags and water bottles, nutritional supplement drinks, small snack items, personal hygiene items, stamps and grocery gift cards, according to the website.

Besides bringing relief to those in need, city staff gets the opportunity to personally assess the growing demands of homebound seniors. Senior centers accept donations year round, stated the website.
