A contract between the Scottsdale Unified School District and Scottsdale Arts for the installation and maintenance of artwork at the Palomino Library received a stamp of approval from Scottsdale City Council Friday, Dec. 2.

Both the city and SUSD want to have artist Carrie Marill, or another approved artist, design, fabricate, install and place an integrated mural on the east interior wall of Palomino Library above the teen books section.

Palomino Library is on the Desert Mountain High School property and SUSD jointly operates the property, according to an intergovernmental agreement.

According to the proposal, this project does not technically fall under Scottsdale Arts’ service, but the city still wants Scottsdale Arts to contract with and supervise the artist. Additionally, the city would like Scottsdale Arts to manage the project and perform maintenance on the resulting mural.

Scottsdale arts will contract with, supervise and provide compensation to the artist an amount not exceeding $3,000. The proposal also states SUSD will retain the finished piece until at least Jan. 1, 2020 unless otherwise mutually agreed upon by the parties.
