Nicon Women’s Softball Team hosts golf tournament at The Legend at Arrowhead

In their quest to compete for the Women’s Slowpitch World Championships in Orlando, Fla. the Nicon Women’s Softball Team is hosting a golf tournament Sunday, July 31 at the Legend at Arrowhead Golf Course, 21027 N. 67th Ave. in Glendale.

Cost is $65 per player or $250 for a foursome with a portion of proceeds going to travel and tournament expenses the Nicon Trucking team will occur later this year at the slowpitch championships.

The United States Specialty Sports Association Women’s World Championships is slated for the third weekend in September in Florida, according to Faith Woods, a member of the Nicon Women’s Softball Team.

“This tournament for us, it is good way to build camaraderie, between these women in a fun competitive atmosphere doing something we all really enjoy,” Mrs. Woods said in a July 18 phone interview. “While we take it seriously, it is just about having fun and competing with these women.”

Mrs. Woods points out travel, lodging and tournament expenses come out of the pocket of participants.

“These tournaments, all the travel, the tournament, hotel, it all comes out of our pockets,” she said. “So we have to fundraise to make our way there.”

The July 31 four-person scramble will feature: 18 holes; a barbeque cookout; sponsor raffle prizes; and unique course contests.

Deadline to register for the four-person scramble is Saturday, July 23. For more information, contact
