Home is where the heart is, but in north Scottsdale, a custom builder is constructing a “Home With a Heart.”

Together with more than 40 local business partners, the Bill and Joanne Stock Foundation and Sommer Custom Homes have constructed a nearly $4 million, 5-bedroom, 7,350 square-foot luxury home on sale now in the Silverleaf Arcadia neighborhood of D.C. Ranch, 9849 E. Legacy Lane, Scottsdale.

Estimated completion is end of May.

Nearly all materials used in the construction of the home were donated by local businesses, and all profits from the sale of home benefit Phoenix Children’s Hospital’s One Darn Cool School, the hospital’s in-house education center where patients can continue their studies while in treatment, guided by professional, state-certified educators.

“This is unlike any other charitable project I’ve seen in my more than three decades at Phoenix Children’s Hospital,” said Steve Schnall, senior vice president and chief development officer at Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundation. “The Bill and Joanne Stock Foundation, Sommer Custom Homes and their community partners have truly poured their hearts into this project. The home is a stunning monument to how, when we work together, we can solve the community’s biggest problems.”

Mr. and Mrs. Stock know what it’s like to have a child with an illness. Their son had hydrocephalus as a child — a primarily pediatric medical condition that causes the buildup of fluid in the ventricles of the brain. The couple credits a Boston pediatric hospital for saving his life.

The couple wanted to do something impactful for local families in need, and immediately looked to Phoenix Children’s Hospital as the organization to spread hope, health and healing to the children who need it most.

“When I visit Phoenix Children’s Hospital, I see that the hospital is really a hero factory,” said Mr. Stock. “Every day, Phoenix Children’s fabricates protectors and guardians of our kids. I see doctors vanquish the pain and suffering from illnesses. I see teachers, nurses and staff nudging parents into that bubble of hope. I see parents become heroes for their kids too.”

Mr. and Mrs. Stock and Sommer Custom Homes engaged community vendors to donate discounted materials and labor for the home, several of which are local to Scottsdale, including Ferguson Kitchen & Bath, Simply Inspired Interior Design, Sierra Pacific Windows, Alfaro Concrete, Desert Valley Audio Video, Casa de Cantera, Innovative Wine, Closet Masters, Chisel Marble & Granite and Magsam Masonry.
