Scottsdale approves one-year agreement for Off-Road Expo

The city of Scottsdale will enter into a one-year funding agreement for an amount not to exceed $75,000, making way for the Off-Road Expo in March.

The Scottsdale City Council approved on consent the agreement with Bonnier Corporation, which produces the event, at its Tuesday, Jan. 8 meeting at City Hall, 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd. Funds for the event would come from the Tourism Development Fund.

The city stands to benefit from the event, as “the marketing and promotional benefits provide direct consideration substantially equal to the proposed city’s expenditure,” a city staff report to council states.

The Off-Road Expo is a two-day event, which brings in off-road companies, industry experts and exhibitors with off-road enthusiasts and consumers.

City staff estimate the attendance for this year’s event to be 16,000. About 17,000 attended the event last year, producing 429 event room nights. Event producers say they will pay $150,000 in marketing.

Once the event is over, the city will receive a report detailing the producer’s performance per the event funding agreement. The city can also do its own survey and conduct an audit.

In November, the Tourism Development Commission recommended the agreement and the specified amount to the city council.
