Council approved the resolution Tuesday, Nov. 13 between WestWorld, Scottsdale and Goodguys Enterprises Inc., at City Hall, 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd.

The resolution authorizes an agreement between the entities to produce the Goodguys Southwest Nationals events in November 2018 and March 2019 at the WestWorld facility, according to a city staff report.

The nationals in November have been at WestWorld since 1998; and the spring nationals in March have been at the venue since 2010.

The Goodguys car shows at WestWorld, which city staff estimates attracts about 33,000 attendees a year, also contributes to the tourism industry, along with the two other events, the report described.

There are still issues to be resolved, the report said, explaining why the contract is only for November 2018 and March 2019 events. The producer awaits a decision from the city about the tent used at WestWorld for a vendor and patron entrance. Plus, there needs to be a city-approved traffic plan for all events the report said.

Event producer will receives a credit on the invoice for a revenue share on food, alcohol and RV sales if applicable and gave a summary of the revenue collected during the FY 2017-18 nationals and spring nationals events.

While WestWorld operations staff is responsible for trash clean up during events, the producer pays posted rates for this service on their invoice, the report said, to ensure the event is cleaned throughout the day and evening after the public leaves.

Providing further details, a city spokesman noted in addition to the direct facility payment, WestWorld contracts include revenue sharing provisions through which the city and the event producer share revenue on food and beverage sales along with RV space rentals as shown below.

Specifically to Goodguys, the city received:

Fall 2017:

  • Facility rental – $48,206
  • Secondary revenue – $100,397
  • Total to the city – $148,603

Spring 2018:

  • Facility rental – $60,995
  • Secondary revenue – $76,235
  • Total to the city – $137,230
