The announcement will come at ATOMdesign at the ASU Scottsdale Skysong Innovation Center, 1475 N. Scottsdale Road No. 100.

The mayor and City Council members are elected “at large” to represent the entire city for four-year terms, according to city charter.

Councilwoman Klapp’s current term will be expiring January 2016. She is declaring her re-election intentions for the August 2016 primary election.

She began her first term on the Scottsdale City Council in January 2009, and was re-elected to a second term that began in January 2013.

From the primary, three front-runners will be named and advance to the November 2016 general election, state election guidelines state.
