Scottsdale couple fall victim to murder-suicide

Scottsdale police responded to a call at 3:40 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4, where John Denton, 75, had shot his wife, Mona Denton, 74, before shooting himself.

According to a Sept. 4 police report, Mr. Denton knocked on a neighbor’s door in the area of the 7300 block of Valley Vista and told his neighbors that his wife needed medical attention before running back to his house and locking himself inside.

The neighbor called 911 and heard a loud noise while standing in the subject’s front yard, according to Scottsdale Sgt. Ben Hoster. Officers arrived and used forced-entry to enter the home where they found the two bodies in the front room, stated the report.

Investigators have determined the married couple was in the process of going through a divorce, according to Sgt. Hoster.
