Scottsdale Fire Department hosts gala to mark 10th anniversary

 

Scottsdale Fire Department celebrated its 10th anniversary with a special commemorative gala held June 26 at the Scottsdale Center for Performing Arts.

Scottsdale fire 2Speakers included Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane and Scottsdale Fire Chief Tom Shannon, as well as the district’s two prior fire chiefs — William McDonald and Garret Olson.

Mr. McDonald is the present fire chief for the City of Las Vegas, Nev. and Mr. Olson is the fire chief for the City of San Luis Obispo, Calif.

Keynote speaker for the event was Ron Wolfley, four-time NFL Pro Bowler and current Arizona Cardinals radio analyst.

Scottsdale Fire Department was created in 2005 after Rural/Metro Fire cancelled its contract for fire protection with the city. The city’s first firefighters were sworn in during a ceremony held June 30, 2005.
