In recognition of outstanding performance, on Sept. 17, Aviation Structural Mechanic 2nd Class Margaret O’Connor, a Scottsdale native, is being recognized as USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) Avenger of the Day.

Assigned to VAQ-131 Airframes work center and Trouble Shooter Shack, she supervises and trains seven personnel during Flight Deck operations, according to a press release.

Her dedication and exceptional work ethic were pivotal in the safe launch and recovery of 43 EA-18G Growler ensuring the USS GEORGE H. W. BUSH and Carrier Air Group EIGHT Team successfully completed carrier qualifications in a timely fashion.

Additionally, she provided valuable training to three personnel who then earned Tire and Wheel certification, increasing squadron qualifications and ability to conduct maintenance effectively and efficiently.

Ms. O’Connor’s motivation and continued drive for success has set the standard high for others to emulate and is a true example of “Freedom at Work”.
