Scottsdale PD ask for help identifying alleged American flag thief

The Scottsdale Police Department is asking for help from the public in identifying a person suspected of theft of an American flag and criminal damage.

Around 2 a.m. on July 27 and 28, an unidentified male subject removed the American flag from its pole at the Scottsdale Park Suites, 1251 N. Miller Road.

The suspect was captured on surveillance video throwing the flag onto the ground and damaging the light that illuminates the flag pole, police officials said in a news release.

The subject is described as a white male, approximately 5-feet-10-inches tall weighing about 250-275 pounds. He was last seen walking south from the location on Miller Road, police said.

Based on surveillance photos and the incidents occurring on consecutive nights, it is believed the subject lives in the area, according to police.

Anyone with information related to this case is asked to call the Scottsdale Police Department at 480-312-5000. Anonymous tips can be left at www.tipsoft.com or 480-312-8477.
