Scottsdale pedestrian accident results in one fatality

The Scottsdale Police Department is investigating a fatal car and pedestrian accident that took place on 82nd Street and McDowell Road.

According to a police report, an elderly female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle that was heading westbound on McDowell between Granite Reef and 82nd Street. Investigators revealed a Ford Focus was traveling westbound on McDowell Road on the curb or in the rightmost lane.

The woman was walking in the traffic lane when she was struck by the vehicle, according to the report. The driver stopped and attempted to render medical aid to the female, who was pronounced dead at the scene, the report states.

According to police, alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the accident.

The identity of the female pedestrian is being withheld until the next of kin has been notified.
