The Scottsdale Police Department has arrested a woman after she reportedly confessed to killing her mother.

Police say a resident at 6505 E. Osborn Road called 911 at 2 p.m. Monday, May 13 to report that her neighbor asked her to call. When the dispatcher pressed for more information, the neighbor handed the phone to 46-year-old Holly Brennan, according to a police report.

Police say Ms. Brennan told the dispatcher that she had killed her mother. Scottsdale Patrol officers were dispatched to the complex and they contacted Ms. Brennan in front of her apartment.

Ms. Brennan told the officers that she killed her mother by smothering her with a pillow, according to a police report. The officers then entered the apartment and, police say, located Ms. Brennan’s mother, 79-year-old Sharon Simmons, deceased in a bedroom.

Ms. Brennan was arrested and will be facing charges of first degree murder, according to a police report.

Police claim there was a history of domestic violence between Ms. Brennan and Ms. Simmons. Both parties have lived together for several years, a police report states.

The investigation is on-going and no further information is available at this time.
