Scottsdale police are reporting the arrest of Venkata N. Nukala in the early hours of Saturday, March 21 for allegedly driving a black Honda Accord northbound in the southbound lanes of Loop 101 at about Shea Boulevard.

Police say 9-1-1 calls were received by dispatch at 2:15 a.m. March 21.

“Moments later, the black Honda sedan was observed by Scottsdale police officers driving the wrong way on the 101 freeway at Raintree,” said Scottsdale Police Sgt. Ben Hoster in a press release.

“One Scottsdale patrol unit was able to stop at the southbound Pima/Princess on-ramp to the 101 freeway. As the black Honda Accord passed the patrol car, the officer successfully deployed stop sticks and deflated the tires of the suspect vehicle.”

Police officials say Mr. Nukala showed signs of impairment and he told officers that he believed that he was on his way home to Gilbert. He has a suspended driver’s license due to a previous DUI, according to the release.

Mr. Nakala was arrested for Aggravated DUI and Endangerment.
