Scottsdale warns against scam using city phone numbers

Scottsdale is warning residents to not to be spoofed by a sales call from a city prefix, 480-312-XXXX.

The city “owns” the entire 480-312 prefix, according to a press release, which is up to 10,000 phone numbers.

According to the city’s in-house IT experts, the scam sales calls are ROBO callers that pick any number to hide their identity.

“They also seem to completely ignore the ‘Do Not Call’ list that legitimate companies do their best to adhere to,” the municipal press release stated.

The scammers usually use several city phone numbers at random for a few days and then move on.

“Unfortunately, the city does not have a way to stop them or control the numbers they pick,” the press release states. “If you get one of these calls, simply ignore it.”
