SUV strikes, kills man lying in the street

A driver of a white Kia SUV early Monday morning struck a man lying in the road near the 8100 block of Thomas Road in Scottsdale.

At approximately 2:50 a.m. in the morning, the white Kia SUV was travelling eastbound on Thomas Road.  The Kia was occupied by a male driver and a female passenger.

The Kia struck a 47-year-old male subject laying in the roadway.  The subject was dragged several hundred feet before the vehicle came to a stop.  The male subject died as a result of the collision.

The occupants of the Kia remained at the scene and cooperated with detectives.

Thomas Road was closed between Hayden Road and 82nd Street while detectives investigated the incident.

The deceased was identified as Louis Martinez, 48.  Mr. Martinez had a known medical condition that would make him lay down immediately.  Police determined that he must have suffered a seizure that caused him to lay down in the roadway.
