Update 7:25 a.m. July 28:

A physical struggle, short foot pursuit and a knife confrontation resulted in the death of one man in a Scottsdale parking lot on July 27, according to Scottsdale police officials.

At approximately 5 p.m. on July 27, Scottsdale patrol officers responded to a “check subject” call in the area of 9301 E. Shea, said police Sgt. Ben Hoster in a press release.

Initial reports indicated a white male subject had been seen in the area acting erratic and suspicious, the release stated. Two officers contacted the subject in front of the Sprouts grocery store.

Upon contact, the subject “was acting erratic and would not comply with officers’ commands,” Sgt. Hoster said in the release. A struggle ensued, followed by a short foot pursuit.

The subject re-engaged the officers in the parking lot to the south of the Sprouts. During that contact, the subject was non-compliant and confronted the officers with a knife.

This resulted in one officer fatally shooting the subject, Sgt. Hoster said.

At this time, the identity of the male subject is unknown.  No officers were injured during this incident and there are no outstanding suspects.

The investigation is on-going at this time.
