Update: Scottsdale Police Department has determined that the shooting on March 30 has been ruled a murder-suicide, and both victims are now deceased.

Police reports state that the male subject, identified as Jose G. Rios, 55, shot his girlfriend multiple times and then turned the gun on himself. Rios died on March 31 at an area hospital, officials stated.

At 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, Scottsdale police officers responded to a “shots fired” call where one woman was found dead, and one male was found with a gun shot wound, according to officials.

Officers responded to the call at the Scottsdale Belle Rive apartment complex, 8550 E. McDowell, where neighbors reported they could hear arguing and multiple gun shots from inside an apartment. Officers evacuated several surrounding apartments before using forced entry into the unit, according to Scottsdale Police Department Sgt. Ben Hoster.

Police found an adult female with multiple gunshot wounds, who was pronounced dead at the scene. An adult male subject also found with a single gunshot sound to the head; he was still breathing and transported to a local hospital. A handgun was recovered at the scene, according to police.

The investigation is on-going at this time.
