Austin: misrepresentation of Prop. 420 is attempt to bamboozle Scottsdale voting bloc

Proposition 420 is a ballot initiative regarding our citizen-owned Sonoran Desert preserve.

A “yes” vote on Nov. 6 would secure a small but critical Charter change giving Scottsdale voters control over anything built in our Preserve other than trails or trailheads. It does not change the current management structure of the Preserve, or in any way prevent the existing operations of the Preserve to continue as is.
It only puts construction to a vote of the citizens.

I spent six months talking to citizens of Scottsdale about their Preserve, and helped collect 37,608 signatures from citizens who wanted to vote on construction in their Preserve. I was humbled that so many Scottsdale citizens wanted to sign the petition. Once we succeeded in getting Prop. 420 on the ballot I thought that my work was done — I was in for a rude awakening.

The special interests who want to build a $68,000,000 tourist attraction in our Preserve had other ideas. They use a series of anonymous blogs and fake Twitter accounts to spread disinformation and personal attacks. Recently they have been posting that Scottsdale Prop 420 is about marijuana legalization.

Several people opposed to Prop. 420 have been circulating a graphic designed to look like “Protect Our Preserve PAC’s” logo. Even more despicable and upsetting is that City Councilwoman Virginia Korte shared it on her Twitter page. Ms. Korte, a sitting councilwoman, is intentionally misleading her Twitter followers!

I sent her an email on Aug. 19 expressing my outrage and disgust demanding an apology to her constituents. Later that day after my complaint to the mayor and the council, the fake meme disappeared from her Twitter page, but she obviously doesn’t know what a screen shot is. As you can see, the internet never forgets.

I sent Ms. Korte private emails but she refused to admit that she posted the meme. She merely said she wasn’t allowed to comment because of a pending ethics complaint against her. I will be filing my complaint soon.

Councilwoman Korte is abusing her position, and trying to bamboozle her constituents about what Prop. 420 is.
