Greco: Christianity is not a vehicle for hate

I am increasingly worried about my childhood religion. I grew up as a Christian, and was taught that God is Love. His son, Jesus, preached inclusion, and famously proclaimed: “let all the little children come unto me.”

Today, I watch and listen with worry, as self-proclaimed Christian conservatives preach divisiveness and hate, instead of inclusion and love. To make me even more worried, these Christians have largely hijacked my old political party, the Republicans.

And, there they preach misuse of our government, to force their version of barbaric Old Testament, Biblical law, onto the rest of us. Don’t these so-called Christian conservatives know that when they do this, they sound and act just like the hateful extremist Islamists, who they roundly condemn?

I think Americans need to worry that our major religion, Christianity, is being misused today by a small but vocal extremist minority, who prefer to exclude and hate, rather than include and love.

How very sad for America. What would Jesus think?
