Manson: we all have a special interest in good government

As treasurer of Lane 4 Scottsdale 2016, I am proud to be among the countless Scottsdale residents and local business leaders who have supported Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane. These people have a genuine interest in good government.

Bob Littlefield has said Jim’s supporters should “fear and hate” him. Bob, aided by a handful of negative voices, tries to vilify those who stand with Jim Lane calling them “special interests.”

We all have a special interest in good government.

We all have a special interest in making sure Scottsdale’s economy continues to thrive.

We all have a special interest in making sure unemployment remains low and property values are high.

It’s regrettable that Bob and a small group of his allies assail the good character of the people with the sense to support Mayor Lane. Especially when you consider that Jim has never attacked Bob’s supporters. I respect any resident that takes the time to get involved in local government; even those I disagree with.

There is also a great deal of hypocrisy in Bob’s attacks. Bob rails against apartments yet he has taken campaign contributions from the apartment lobby. And, Littlefield has collected large sums of campaign contributions from payday lenders, developers, lobbyists, and those who had business before him when he was on the

Scottsdale City Council. Bob has taken money from a “special interest group” that used horrible tactics to try and close Bashas’ grocery stores. When Bob continues to attack the mayor over “special interests” his duplicity is there for all to see.

The latest attack on the mayor comes in the form of an editorial written by Jason Alexander, a man who claims to be committed to preventing an outsized Desert Discovery center at the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. Yet Mr. Alexander continues to ignore the fact the Mayor Lane is committed to a public vote on the DDC and that Mayor Lane opposes such a project without a public vote. It is interesting to note that Mr. Littlefield has now come around to also supporting a public vote when he originally opposed the idea, and his supporters are attempting to turn the tables, spreading the falsehood that Mayor Lane is opposed to a public vote.

Mr. Alexander’s attacks on Mayor Lane’s supporters are untrue, unfair and indeed an attack on those committed to making sure Scottsdale remains on the right track and the best city in America.
