Opinion: Credit Trump success to mass media fear mongering

President–elect Donald Trump is a direct result of mass media and the 24-hour news cycle.

The American public has been deluged with pictures of race-based demonstrations, police shootings, and police being shot.  Niche media, lead by Fox News and right-wing radio, have been all too happy to spin conspiracy theories to satisfy audiences unwilling or unable to understand the facts.

We have been told time and again that America is falling apart.  Reported widespread discord morphed into chaos in the minds of many, and that set the stage for someone who knows the secret of how to make us great again.  Enter President-elect Donald Trump, a direct reaction to the unsafe and threatening world portrayed by mass and niche media with their 24-hour “news” cycles.

Stand by now for increased roles for government, the injection of right-wing religion into our laws, the diminution of individual rights and liberties, and the rise of exclusionary attitudes and actions.

The shredding of the American vision articulated in our Declaration of Independence is upon us.  Welcome to a new America, which in the minds of far too many of our fellow citizens, is a chaotic and failing wasteland, which begged for a strongman to make us safe and great again.

Hail President Trump!
