Opinion: Message to those who disagree with U.S. values: Stay away

Given Jeb Bush’s latest comment that multiculturalism is bad for America, it is important to be clear just what multiculturalism is.

Bush used the explanation of separate cultures in the same society, that presumably did not merge and meld.  He went on to state that assimilation is the American way, and it is.

The “American way” has developed over time, and is still developing.  We are an ongoing combination of many immigrant cultures:  American Indian, African, Hispanic, German, English, Italian, Irish, and many others.  There is nothing originally American about hot dogs, apple pie, hamburgers or pizza.

The real problem with multiculturalism occurs when people from dramatically different cultures want to not only maintain their own culture intact, but in fact militate against the society they moved to.

This is what has happened in Europe, and now France, the United Kingdom, Denmark, the Netherlands and other such countries have pockets of immigrants who are dysfunctional and anti social.

These are often Muslim immigrants, who actively oppose and may even despise those individual rights and personal freedoms that those Europeans hold dear.  So we now have the sad spectacle of extremist Muslims in Europe leaving there to go fight for ISIS, or worse, attacking people in their host countries.

We also have a growing problem in America, where some extremist Muslims are leaving to go fight for ISIS.  Some are even becoming domestic terrorists, because they see their culture and values as superior to America’s values, and think our American values need to be destroyed.

This is the kind of separate and extreme multiculturalism that is bad for America, and should not be allowed to exist.

People who do not agree with America’s vision, as articulated in our Declaration of Independence and our U.S. Constitution with the Bill of Rights, should NOT be allowed in.

If people don’t agree with our values and our way of life, they can stay where they are, or go somewhere else.  But they should not be allowed to land on our shores.  To do otherwise, is to put all of us at unnecessary risk of social chaos and even physical violence, which is already a major problem in Europe.
