Opinion: Scottsdale residents should support open primaries

The Open Primaries Movement is an attempt to encourage more voter participation by opening up the primary election process, candidate nominations, and election rules to non-party affiliated voters.

This effort would weaken the stranglehold partisan parties have on our politics, and help to correct the current gerrymandering of election districts that favor ideological extremists.

I encourage all Arizona voters to Google “Open Primaries Movement,” to learn more about this nationwide effort, as well as what is happening in Arizona.

All voters, but especially Independent voters, should support this effort to make our politics less divisive and more inclusive.
