Whitehead: I’m humbled, honored to serve at City Hall

For two years, I have been focused on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018.

Long before I was a candidate. I was focused on keeping a preserve — our McDowell Sonoran Preserve – preserved.

What I didn’t realize two years ago is this: I live in a community that passionately agreed. We demonstrated that a preserve must be protected from commercial exploitation and left as unstructured, beautiful wilderness — free and accessible to all. A preserve is our gift to the future. A gift that also enriches our lives today. Most important, a preserve that provides homes for our cherished wildlife.

We successfully accomplished that which past generations did for us. We are the “future” that inherited National Parks and our beautiful state and regional parks.

Our accomplishment can not be overstated. WE DID IT! WE MADE HISTORY!

(Worth noting — there are among us exceptional heroes in this effort. That is a future newsletter)

What began as a threat — the DDC — became a blessing. Scottsdale is so much stronger as a community today. We proved democracy is alive and well. We have hundreds of new friends and partners and discovered unity and shared passions that extend far beyond the Preserve. .

What an incredible journey. Our future is so bright.

And of course, I am (beyond) humbled and so deeply honored that I have been elected to serve on YOUR team at City Hall.

Together we can do so much and I can’t wait to start!!!

Editor’s Note: Ms. Whitehead was recently elected to the Scottsdale City Council as part of the 2018 election.
