Specializing in authentic Mexican cuisine crafted using family recipes from Mexico City and other regions including Cancun, Cabo San Lucas, and Cozumel, the Ortiz family opened their first Hacienda’s Mexican Grill location in North Scottsdale in 2012
Irene Ortiz explained that it is their family recipes, fair prices, delicious food and customer service that makes them stand out and keeps diners coming back.
The design of the restaurant is modern with a Mexican hacienda atmosphere with a stained-glass ceiling in the entry. The center point of the open dining room is the horseshoe-shaped full-bar with two TV screens. Mexican music plays quietly in the background and adds to the dining experience.
We recently dined at the Summit location. While deciding on our dinner selections, we enjoyed the multi-colored tortilla chips and a very tasty salsa. Our server Charlie described some of the dishes and assured us we would be pleased with any item ordered.
Menu items include appetizers, salads, homemade soups, burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas, fajitas, chimichangas, a selection of entrees and desserts. For those who prefer a gluten free meal, there is a nice selection.
According to Irene, the specialty of the house is the Yucateca Cochinita Pibil, a true traditional Mayan dish of marinated pork with achiote and orange juice, slowly cooked with banana leaves.
This is served with rice, refried black beans, fresh corn tortillas and a side of cilantro, guacamole and habanero sauce for $17.
Another customer favorite is the guacamole made table-side with fresh ingredients of your choice that include avocado, spicy serrano chile, pico de gallo, jalapenos, white onion, salt and garlic, cilantro, tomatoes and lime juice. Cost is $11. It is a treat to watch it being prepared and to enjoy before and during your meal.
For dinner, I selected the Grilled Chicken Burrito, generously filled with flavorful cubed chicken, refried black beans and fresh cilantro, topped with cheese and red sauce with a side of pico de gallo, fresh guacamole and sour cream. The cost was $12.
My wife enjoyed the three Baja Fish Tacos with tilapia seasoned perfectly and served with coleslaw chipotle aioli, and rice. Cost $15.
For dessert we had the delicious Flan ($7). All desserts are made in-house.
Come for happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m. daily. Relax and enjoy a margarita or one of the specialty cocktails while winding down from a hectic day.
For parties, there is a private dining room accommodating 40 guests and a semi-private area for 50-60 guests. The patio is available for dining and private parties so you can enjoy the weather and views while dining or having a drink with friends.
Catering is available for office, home, parties and events. Carry-out and delivery service is also offered.
