Notre Dame’s Martinez named to Pac-12 All-Academic team

Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep graduate Grant Martinez, a redshirt freshman tight end for the Arizona State Football program, is among 12 ASU players honored on the Pac-12 All-Academic teams.

1210Ns Education Photo (NDP Football player) FOR WEBTo be eligible for the academic teams, a player must have a minimum 3.0 overall GPA and be either a starter or significant contributer on the field, according to a press release.

The 12 players represent a school record for ASU whose academic team standings rank second in the conference behind Stanford, the release states.

The University of Arizona placed six players on the all-academic teams.

Standing 6’5” and 220 pounds, Grant was regarded as the top senior tight end in the state of Arizona in 2014 and received multiple honors while playing for NDP.

He chose ASU over scholarship offers from Air Force, Army, Duke, California, Oregon State and Utah and credits late NDP coach Scot Bemis as his inspiration
