Scottsdale junior tennis star defeated at U.S. Open

FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. – Scottsdale’s Nathan Ponwith fell in the first round of the U.S. Open Junior Tournament played at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Sunday, Sept. 6.

Mr. Ponwith, 17, lost in three sets to Portugal’s Nuno Borges, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

He is coached in New York by former Arizona State men’s tennis coach Lou Belken.

Mr. Ponwith is currently ranked No. 24 in the ITF world singles rankings. He will next play doubles with Ulises Blanch of the United States.
