Xavier Prep softball player named national ‘Player of the Week’

Xavier College Preparatory senior Mallory Belknap was named a National High School Player of the Week by MaxPreps/National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

She was one of only three high school softball players nationwide to receive “Player of the Week” honors for games played during the week of March 9-15, according to a MaxPreps press release.

“Belknap batted .667 (14-21) with two doubles, four RBI and 11 runs scored as her Xavier Gators went 6-1 last week. The senior captain recorded a hit in every contest with six multi-hit games and also scored in six of seven contests,” the release states.

“She collected a week-best three hits in the opener against Red Mountain High School and went on to score two runs in five of her last six games. Of her multi-hit performances, she doubled against Red Mountain and Verrado, a game in which she knocked in three runs as well. For the week, she registered .750 on base and .762 slugging percentages, stole two bases and was perfect defensively in 17 chances.”

Ms. Belknap is an honor student at Xavier with a weighted GPA of over 4.0. She is also a student council officer.
